Professor Sir Terence Stephenson appointed as Health Research Authority Chair

Professor Sir Terence Stephenson has been appointed as Chair of the Health Research Authority (HRA) for three years from 1 September 2019. The core purpose of the HRA is to protect and promote the interests of patients and the public in health and social care research.
Terence is Nuffield Professor of Child Health at the UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health and Honorary Consultant Paediatrician at UCL Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust & Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust. He is was Chair of the General Medical Council (GMC) and before that he was Chair of the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges and President of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health.
Professor Stephenson said, “having spent a lifetime in health and research, this role combines two of my passions”.
Professor Rosalind Smyth, Director of the UCL Great Ormond Street of Child Health said, “Terence has made an enormous contribution throughout his career to children's health and also to the integrity of clinical care more widely in the medical profession. We are delighted that our distinguished colleague, Sir Terence, has been appointed to the critically important national research role”.
