Anish Bhuva Award Winner

Congratulations to Dr Anish Bhuva for winning the prestigious Royal Society president’s medal for the best UK Cardiology PhD for his work at University College London. The work presented at the Royal Society of Medicine described the vascular effects of training for a first-time marathon. The Marathon Study took place at Barts Heart Centre after it had just opened in 2016. The committee recognised Dr Bhuva’s efforts in working with collaborators across different fields including computing, engineering and sports science. This helped to develop a more detailed and precise structure of the heart and circulation, that take us a step closer to using digital technologies for personalised medicine.

The study funders included: the BHF, Barts Cardiovascular Medical Biomedical Research Centre, and Cardiac risk in the young. The study team including Dr D’Silva and Dr Torlasco were based at Barts Heart Centre, University College London, St George’s University, Imperial College London and the National Institute for Health Research in the USA.

Dr Anish Bhuva is a Cardiology Registrar and PhD student at UCL and has been awarded a British Heart Foundation Clinical Research Training Fellowship for his PhD to apply automated machine learning techniques to improve our understanding of heart disease.
