UCL Energy Institute Director comments on Volkswagen emission tests

Professor Bob Lowe, Director of the UCL Energy Institute has responded to the recent news of Volkswagen's emission tests of it's diesel-powered vehicles:

'It seems to me that what began as the VW scandal does not make the case for electric cars or hybrids over diesel. What it does is makes the case for ensuring that the regulatory processes that govern all technologies are not captured by vested interests.  

Easy to say, but to achieve in practice, it requires constant vigilance and, I suspect, an adequately funded, self-confident, tehnically competent civil service'.

Professor Lowe's comments come as Volkwagen is to be removed from the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI) as of 6 October 2015, an announcement by index organisers RobecoSAM and S&P Dow Jones Indices said today.
