Gabrial is an expert in energy system modelling and policy analysis, working on energy system models such as MARKAL and TIMES for energy and climate policy analysis at national, regional and global level. He has about 10 years of research experience working in developed and developing countries. He worked in a range of large research projects in the UK such as UK Energy Research Centre (UKERC) Phase I and Phase II, UK Sustainable Hydrogen Energy Consortia (UKSHEC) projects and Bio energy project. He also carries out research on energy and development issues focussing on the Global South: Africa, Asia and Latin America.
Gabrial has carried out research in many cities in South and East Asia, analysing technical options to mitigate urban transport emissions, under “Asian Regional Research Program in Energy, Environment and Climate” (ARRPEEC) Phase II and Phase III when he was working in AIT.
Gabrial’s research interests include energy system modeling at national, regional (EU) and global level, multi-criteria analysis (AHP), multi-objective energy system modelling, decomposition analysis, global technology learning, modelling unconventional gas, energy and development, energy efficiency improvements in developing countries, and low-carbon technology pathways for developing countries.
Teaching “Advanced Energy-Economic-Environmental Modelling” course to MSc in EPEE (Economics and Policy of Energy and the Environment).
Supervising PhD and Master degree students in UCL Energy Institute.
I taught courses to Master degree students in Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand: Energy Economic Modelling and Policy Analysis, Energy Price Theory, and Energy Statistics and Energy Demand forecasting.
