This course typically provides lectures that deliver the awareness, understanding and knowledge required by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) and the Architects Registration Board (ARB) for competence to practise. This course is open to anyone wishing to familiarise themselves with UK practice.
The series consists of around 50 lectures and workshops running between February and May 2021. The lectures are given by experts from leading architectural practices and organisations, and academics from various departments within UCL.
The lectures will be delivered online and recorded, supported by presentations and/or lecture notes accessible through the virtual learning portal, Moodle. In addition, there will be a two full-day interactive workshops to cover building law and contract administration.
Topics include: current professional issues, climate change and sustainability, professional ethics and codes of conduct; clients, users and the delivery of services; Architect’s Appointment contracts, fees and resource planning; practice and financial management, insurance, managing people, employment law; building legislation including planning and historic buildings, Building Regulations and CDM; procurement and project delivery including building contract administration; and dispute and complaints management.
A certificate of attendance is available to practitioners for CPD purposes; EU and internationally registered architects and non UK students working in the UK; returners to the profession and others in allied construction or creative arts industries who are keen to expand or update their professional knowledge. It is also available to those attending Part 3 courses at other Part 3 course providers.
