Bartlett Chair curates Bernard Tschumi retrospective

Frédéric Migayrou Chair and Professor of Architecture at The Bartlett School of Architecture, has curated the first major European retrospective of iconic French-Swiss architect Bernard Tschumi, showing at the Centre Pompidou until 29 July 2014.

Based on Tschumi’s work as an architect, educator, and writer, the exhibition explores the making of architecture as a series of arguments, ideas, influences, and responses to the contemporary definition of architecture today.

The show is accompanied by a comprehensive exhibition catalogue, published in French and in English. The 256-page volume features essays, projects, texts, and historical and archival material, and is the first major monograph on Tschumi’s work to be published in France.

The catalogue retraces key moments in the architect’s practice. Abundantly illustrated, it argues two fundamental points at the centre of Tschumi’s work. First, architecture must be made out of ideas and concepts before becoming form. Second, it cannot be dissociated from the events and movement of the bodies that inhabit it.
