The Bartlett International Lecture Series is free and open to members of the public. Places are limited so early arrival is recommended.

The presentation will explore various themes around which, over the past 25 years, the work of Sauerbruch Hutton has evolved:

• Viewing the city as landscape and working with its physical, cultural and historical traces.
• Engaging with the necessity of reduction and reinterpreting this as a luxury – in terms of a considered response to both depleting resources of energy as well as reduction in financial means.
• Exploring the notion of kinetic polychromy – that is, how buildings affect us as we move around them and sense them corporeally.
• Most importantly, discussing architecture’s imperative to engage with the public realm. 

About Louisa Hutton

Louisa Hutton (OBE, RA, BA (Hons), AA Dipl., RIBA, Hon. FAIA) is an architect and founding partner of Sauerbruch Hutton. She has taught at the Architectural Association and was a visiting professor at Harvard Graduate School of Design. Hutton has lectured, chaired and participated in juries around the world and is a member of the Curatorial Board of the Schelling Architecture Foundation, an Honorary Fellow of the American Institute of Architects, and a Royal Academician of Arts.

The architecture of Sauerbruch Hutton has been awarded various prizes including the Gottfried Semper Award in 2013. For the Immanuel Church in Cologne the practice was awarded the German Architecture Award 2015.
