Bartlett Perth Workshop 2020

'The Yanchep Collection' is a pop-up workshop hosted by the University of Australia, and co-led by The Bartlett School of Architecture.

The Bartlett Summer Studio 2017
About

This workshop explores the existing potential and proposal of Yanchep, Australia, investigating alternative ways to establish a new city fabric through a series of architectural and urban design interventions. Working through a collective model, ideas and territories will be negotiated, concepts developed, processes discovered and designs explored and tested.

The workshop will consider the specific site in Yanchep, exploring the potential to reinvigorate the area by introducing a series of provocative design ideas relating to infrastructure, civic buildings, housing, policies and landscape. Each group of students will negotiate the territory, find an appropriate site and explore the ideas through sketches and conceptual models, final drawings and 3D proposals.

Following the initial analysis and a rapid iterative process, the final physical model will be part of a bigger site model exploring the interventions on site and demonstrating the negotiations with the programme, site and fellow participants. A series of observations onsite will be translated into 3D drawings, two and a half dimensional models and provocative manifestos.

Yanchep, Australia

Geographically located approximately 53 kilometres from Perth and strategically located between the Indian Ocean and the Yanchep National Park, the new city centre of Yanchep will emerge as possibly the only sustainable Clean Green Community in a regional city centre within a metropolitan area in Australia.

Taking advantage of its proximity to the coast, SunCity at Yanchep will be one of the region's most exciting sustainable urban developments, anchoring the North West Corridor and providing a hub of excellence for knowledge based industries.
