Visiting The Bartlett

As a world-class architecture school, we are committed to making our spaces and events accessible.

The front of The Bartlett School of Architecture

We strongly believe in equality within the built environment and that begins with what happens in our building. Improvements are continuously being made to the accessibility of our spaces and events.

If you would like to give us feedback or comment on our accessibility, please send us an email.

Opening times

Our exhibition spaces are open to the public Monday – Friday, 10am – 8pm and Saturday – Sunday, 10am – 5pm, during exhibition periods. Attending an exhibition does not require booking. However, some specific events require prior booking - please check individual events pages for further information. Our building is not open to the public unless otherwise stated for a public event or graduation show.

Entrance

Our main entrance is a large wooden door with a long, vertical metal handle, which opens out towards the street. This is followed by automatic double doors which also open out towards the street. We have a wheelchair accessible button to the left hand side of the entrance which automatically opens the main front door.

If you experience any issues entering the building please contact Bartlett reception on 020 3549 5700.

Wheelchairs

All our spaces are wheelchair accessible but we do not have additional wheelchairs on site. All our venues have seating for wheelchair users and other people with different access needs.

Please tell us your access requirements before you visit, so we can recommend the most suitable space for you.

Dropping off visitors

For arrivals by car, taxi, minibus or Dial-a-Ride, the most convenient set-down point is the Gordon Street entrance. This gives step-free access to the ground-floor reception (level G). To access the lifts to all levels, a wheelchair-accessible security barrier on the ground floor is operated by a member of UCL security staff.

Public transport

For rail, tube and bus routes, Euston station is the nearest step-free tube and rail station. The nearest bus stop is at Euston station: the route is wheelchair accessible but please note it does involve crossing a main road.

Transport for London’s enquiry line (020 7222 1234) can advise on accessible routes, or visit their website.

Parking at UCL

The nearest disabled parking spaces are located on Gordon Square or Endsleigh Gardens, approximately 5 minutes from 22 Gordon Street. Cars can equally drop off passengers outside the front entrance on Gordon Street.

Parking is free after 13:30 on Saturday and all-day Sunday. Otherwise on street parking is charged by the hour.

Assistance dogs

Assistance dogs may be taken into the school.

Hearing facility

There is an induction loop in all of our main event spaces. You can use this by adjusting your hearing aid to the ‘T’ setting.

Large print

We do not have large-print guides to the exhibition and event programmes available on site, but these can be arranged in advance. Please contact us by email at least a week before your visit to pre-book a large-print programme.

Sign language

If you require a BSL interpreter for an event, please contact us by email at least a week in advance.

Toilets

There is at least one accessible toilet on each level of The Bartlett. All the toilets are accessed by entering through the ground-floor security barriers which are staffed by a member of the UCL security team. Our accessible toilets are right-hand transfer on the ground floor and left-hand transfer on all other floors. The toilet doors have a handle that opens outwards.

Food and drink

A café is available on the ground floor. It is open Monday – Friday, 9:00-17:00, during term time.

Lifts

The two 15-person lifts have wide automatic doors, tactile buttons and voice announcements. Both lifts rise from basement level to Level 6. They open directly on to the landing of each floor.
