Meet Rosie Dodds, Student Recruitment, Marketing and Communications Officer for UCL School of Slavonic and East European Studies (SSEES). Find out a bit more about her...
Hello! Tell us a little bit about yourself, and what you do at UCL.
Hello! I’m Rosie. I joined UCL SSEES about six months ago as Student Recruitment, Marketing and Communications Officer. My background is in higher education, travel and events. I’m excited to be part of UCL with its fascinating history.
What are you most looking forward to working on over the coming months?
I am most looking forward to working on the new SSEES brand video (stay tuned), creating new content for the website, meeting prospective students at upcoming events, and completing a full recruitment cycle. I’ve been enjoying learning more about the SSEES region and the school itself is made up of a wonderful community of students and staff.
What would you do (for a career) if you weren’t doing this?
Marketing has always felt like a natural career path for me; although I thoroughly enjoyed fixing up my flat during lockdown so perhaps I’d train as a professional decorator and do something completely different. My absolute dream job, however, would be a radio DJ!
What are your main interests outside work?
Live music is one of my passions, so I try to attend as many concerts as possible (Bruce Springsteen is the best live act IMO). I also enjoy trips to the theatre and cinema. To relax after work, I like to attend a variety of fitness classes or go on walks by the beach where I live.
If you had to eat one meal, every day for the rest of your life, what would it be?
It has to be fish and chips.
Where are you happiest?
Spending quality time with my rescue tabby cat at home brings me lots of joy.
If you could develop a new skill - and reach an advanced level within a week - what would it be?
I’d love to learn how to play the guitar.
What is your favourite podcast?
I love learning more about inspirational people via the Desert Island Discs podcast. I highly recommend the Martin Lewis episode.
What’s your favourite city, and why?
My new favourite city is Lisbon. I visited last year and loved the food and the stunning architecture. I can’t wait to go back!
Tell us a joke!
Rick Astley will let you borrow any movie from his collection of Pixar films except one.
He’s never going to give you Up.
