Technical information about this website's accessibility
University College London is committed to making this website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.
Compliance status
This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard. The non-compliance and exemptions are listed below.
Non-accessible content
The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.
Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations
Group GTI (the developers behind TargetConnect) have produced a TARGETconnect accessibility statement that indicates the following non-compliances:
The supplier has identified particular issues with form labelling, keyboard control and links. These could potentially significantly affect keyboard, screen reader and dictation users. If you cannot use this system for any accessibility related reason, please contact us using the methods above.
If you find an issue that we have yet to identify, please contact us using one of the routes described in the ‘Reporting accessibility problems with this website’ section of this statement.
The issues outlined below have been identified by our UCL's local testing:
Sitewide
Some elements do not receive focus visibility. This includes key navigational elements such as the My Account (Me) option in the top right of the screen and the Recommended Organisations. This fails WCAG 2.4.7 Focus Visible (AA).
There are multiple instances of links that do not have sufficient levels of colour contrast. This fails WCAG 1.4.1 Use of Colour (A).
Some alternative text descriptions do not contain all text in images. This fails WCAG 1.1.1 Non-text Content (A) and 1.4.5 Images of Text (A).
Some headings are not sequential. This fails WCAG 1.3.1 Info and Relationships (A).
Search form fields do not have accessible names. This fails WCAG 4.1.2 Name, Role, Value (A).
Home
On the welcome screen when tabbing through menu items, focus visibility on the different user login buttons (including Recruiter) is not clear. Focus visibility on GTI logo at top left (home). This fails WCAG 1.4.11 Non-text Contrast (AA).
The ARIA role attribute for the My Account option is not correctly applied. This fails WCAG 4.1.2 Name, Role, Value (A).
Search
The option to switch between the table view and the details view is not correctly coded as a list. In a properly structured list, all content is contained within list items. Content includes text and other HTML elements. Certain non-content elements are also allowed. When an assistive technology encounters a list that’s poorly structured or contains disallowed elements, it might respond in an unexpected way. As a result, people who use assistive technologies might find it difficult to interpret the list. This has been updated recently on the Vacancy search page but the Event search still has option to switch between list and table. This fails WCAG 1.3.1 Info and Relationships (A).
The option to present different numbers of results do not have sufficient levels of colour contrast. This fails WCAG 1.4.3 Contrast (Minimum) (AA).
The ARIA role attribute for the page selection option is not correctly applied. This fails WCAG 4.1.2 Name, Role, Value (A).
Career Discovery
There are multiple colour contrast failures related to links and heading styles. This fails WCAG 1.4.3 Contrast (Minimum) (AA).
There is no function to stop automatically moving content in the banner. This fails WCAG 2.2.2 Pause, Stop, Hide (A).
If you find an issue that we have yet to identify, please contact us using one of the routes described in the ‘Reporting accessibility problems with this website’ section of this statement.
Disproportionate burden
At this time, we have not made any disproportionate burden claims.
Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations
This section covers issues that we do not need to fix right now. The law calls these exemptions.
Third-party content
Our websites contain third-party content. We do not have control over and are not responsible for the accessibility of this content, but we make best endeavours to work with the third-party to improve its accessibility. This may include:
- links to non-UCL websites
- content/functionality on our website
- content hosted on other websites, such as social media sites.
To help accessibility compliance across the sector, University College London supports searchBOX, a centralised, independent directory of third-party accessibility information.
searchBOX catalogues the contact information and accessibility statements of third-party suppliers, enables the sharing of community-generated accessibility statements, and allows users to map their supplier ecosystem.
Users can access third-party accessibility statements using the free searchBOX Finder service.
University College London encourages all our partners and suppliers to support this effort by ensuring that their accessibility information is included in the searchBOX directory.
Our testing processes
We formally test the accessibility of key user journeys that represent the breadth of content across our website on a regular basis against WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) 2.2 AA standards.
We tested the website using a combination of manual and automated checks alongside reference to the TARGETconnect accessibility statement. If you find an issue we have not yet identified, you can report it to us. We’ll pass this information to the website owner who will review the issue, make sure it is included in our plan to fix issues and add it into the accessibility statement when it is next updated.
Preparation of this accessibility statement
This statement was prepared on 25 October 2022. It was last reviewed on 25 April 2024. The website was last tested on 7 June 2022 and 24 April 2024. The test was carried out by Group GTI and UCL.
What we’re doing to improve accessibility
The UCL Careers team are working with Group GTI to fix or provide alternatives for all issues that we are made aware of and as identified by our periodic internal testing and auditing processes.
