About the project: 

Southwark Law Centre is dedicated to offering specialist legal advice to those who can’t afford to pay for it, making a difference in the lives of people every day. We operate primarily out of our Southwark main office, with a secondary establishment at the Lewisham Law Centre. We specialise in a variety of legal practice areas, including Discrimination, Employment, Housing, Planning, Welfare Rights and Immigration/Asylum law.

Our services are accessible to individuals referred to us by our partner agencies such as general advice agencies, hospitals, social workers, MPS, and local councillors.

How Does It Work?
We are actively seeking three dedicated student volunteers to support our various teams. Below are the roles we are recruiting for:

  1. Housing Team Support at Lewisham Law Centre: Based at our Leemore Centre branch in London, be the backbone of our housing solicitors team, involving in taking initial instructions, research, and providing crucial administrative support.
  2. Access to Education Project Support: The student will be part of a project that promotes education, helping in organising training events and rendering administrative assistance to the education team, alongside involved research tasks.

What we are looking for:
The successful candidates will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the issues faced by more disadvantaged members of the community and have excellent communication and research skills.
 

Time Commitment:
Students are expected to commit either 1 day per week for a span of six months or intensively commit 2  days per week for a period of 3 months.
 

Training: 
Selected candidates will undergo comprehensive induction training covering the areas of law involved in the advocacy, essentials such as safeguarding and GDPR, advocacy role play and multidisciplinary training from the other team members. You will also be required to undertake training delivered by the CAJ prior to beginning placements.
