The Thames

The Thames…

The Tamesis flows through the city of London, and will carry thither any large ship.

When a ship comes up the river Tamesis into the city, it is the custom for all its cannon to be fired for the king’s pleasure, and sometimes one hears two hundred shots in a day.

The bridge over the Tamesis is big, the third wonder of the land of England, with eighteen arches; it is a veritable town in itself, with a church on it and countless merchants’ shops.
