Undergraduate Degrees

From the everyday technology of flat-screen televisions to theories on the origin of the universe, the principles of matter, energy, space and time explored in physics and astrophysics are fundamental to our lives. Our accredited degrees develop rigorous and creative problem-solving skills, preparing you for an exciting career.

For prospective students:

Information for applicants
  • Resits: Allowed - We considered applicants who are undertaking resits. Applicamts that have undertaken more than two attempts will be referred to our admissions tutor to see if they can be considered.
  • Second year entry: We will not consider applications to enter on to the second year of our degree programmes.
  • Alternative personal statement: We will not consider alternative personal statements.
  • Mature applicants (aged 21 or over at the start date of the degree programme): We understand that good applicants might have breaks in their education for various reasons, and we want mature students to excel at UCL. We will only consider applicants who have met or are predicted to meet entry requirements. If those qualifications were completed more than two years ago then the applicant will be referred to our admissions tutor to see if they can be considered.
  • UCL Undergraduate Preparatory Certificate (UPC): UPC students will receive a conditional offer for their chosen degree if they are predicted to meet its entry requirements (and have a clearly relevant personal statement). 
  • Access to HE Diploma:  We will not consider Access to HE qualifications.
  • BTEC: We will not consider BTEC qualifications.Not considered.
  • Academic Technology Approval Scheme (ATAS): If you are applying for a Student visa to study on MSci Theoretical Physics, and do not meet one of the exemptions, you will be required to provide an ATAS certificate as part of the visa application process. Students can also study Physics as a major or minor option on the Natural Sciences degree.  Students interested in medical applications of physics may also be interested in the Medical Physics degree programmes.

 

Visiting us

Guided Tours

UCL is pleased to offer guided tours of the campus by current UCL students. The tours are primarily for prospective students and their family members and normally last approximately an hour and a half. The dates of upcoming tours are available at guided tours website.

Self-Guided Tours

You are welcome to visit UCL and follow our self-guided tour - simply print out the page, then visit UCL and follow the tour route as shown.

The Physics building is open to visitors between 10.00am and 4.00pm from Monday to Friday. On the first floor of the building, you will find the First Year Lab and on the fourth floor, you can see the Undergraduate Common Room (A17) and the undergraduate computer cluster room (A19). The undergraduate office is in room E2 on the ground floor, however please note the admissions administrator may not always be available to meet you. If you have any questions regarding the application process, please contact our Undergraduate Administrator.

Virtual Tours

If you are unable to visit in person, you can take a virtual tour of UCL instead. You'll be able to look inside lecture theatres, laboratories, the Library, Fitness Centre, the Bloomsbury Theatre and the Students' Union. Virtual tours of our Student Houses and Halls of Residence are also available. A list of Student Houses and Halls of Residence detailing prices and locations can be found on the UCL accommodation webpage.

UCAS Offer Holder Visit Days

Successful applicants will be invited to attend a UCAS Offer Holder Visit Day, where you will meet members of staff and current students and will be taken on a tour of the department and the campus. The visit days will take place between November and March, well before the deadline for firming your university choices.

University of London Undergraduate Fair

The University of London usually runs an Undergraduate Fair in September for prospective students.
