Biography

Glasgow merchant, partner in John Campbell senior & Co. (q.v.), awarded with his co-partners the compensation for the enslaved people on several estates in British Guiana under nine separate awards. The firm was dissolved in 1858, although the family re-emerged in the 20th century as partners in Curtis Campbell.

  1. James Campbell of Moore Park (1792-1874), son of John Campbell senior (1735-1808). 'The last survivor of the family of John Campbell senior: a man of fine presence and stately manners, and familiarly known as "Dignity". He was latterly in the East India trade, first in the Glasgow house of Campbell, Bogle & Douglas, and afterwards along with his nephews, sons to Colgrain, in the great Bombay house of Finlay Campbell & Co. He married Elizabeth Bogle of Gilmorehill and had a numerous family.'
