Second and final year undergraduate programme
Second and final year students - overview
The focus of this part of the UCL Global Citizenship Programme is on putting your skills into practice in practical, real-world projects, preparing you for life beyond university.
Students have a choice each year to take one of three options - Enterprise, Employability and the Voluntary Sector. Each of these develops skills in different areas, and helps prepare students for life beyond UCL.
The three options have been developed by UCL Advances, the UCL Volunteering Services Unit and UCL Careers Service. Each offers many other opportunities to students at all levels of study beyond their UCL Global Citizenship Programme contributions.
Please note that students may only take each strand once - there is no option to repeat a strand in subsequent years. This will help us manage demand for places, as well as ensuring students take advantage of a wide range of opportunities while at UCL.
UCL Advances has designed a two-week programme that challenges 2nd, 3rd and Final year undergraduates at UCL to come up with your own innovative answer to one of today global social problems – obesity, access to clean water, global warming, aging population or youth unemployment.
You will work in teams over the course of the two-weeks to create your own social enterprise that takes a novel approach to tackling on of these social issues. Along the way, you attend workshops of what a social enterprise is, why they are an important part of business and community today, the impact they can have and how they are run. You will also get guidance from inspiring social entrepreneurs and mentoring to help you develop your ideas further.
This second and final year strand is a two week academy for future voluntary sector leaders and others who embrace the challenge of solving complex local and global problems using skills and ingenuity. Students will learn about the voluntary sector before taking on projects in partnership with some of London's charities and community organisations to solve real problems.
The VSU coordinates this strand of the UCL Global Citizenship Programme.
