THE UCL EXPEDITIONS
AND TRAVEL COMMITTEE
Expedition Grants
UCL Expedition Grants are awarded annually to allow students to undertake challenging team exploration to areas of the world, which require unique skills of organisation and teamwork. Expeditions that are funded are undertaken by a group of UCL students under difficult circumstances, requiring skills of organisation and initiative. Good expeditions need to have clearly defined objectives and a well-researched region of travel. Local contacts, good quality topographical maps and a range of skills within your team (e.g. first aid, mechanic, and logistics) are essential.
For the award of an ETC Expedition Grant an expedition leader must be nominated who must be a registered UCL student who will normally be expected to continue on his/her programme of study at UCL at the next normal occasion following the completion of the expedition (i.e. the nominated leader can not therefore be in his/her final-year of study). Details of elibility for Expedition (and Travel) grants are available here.
Application Procedure
A dedicated Moodle site is designed to facilitate the submission of Expedition Grant applications. Search for "Expedition" in the "Search courses" box. The enrolment key is "htc". This site includes all guidance for application preparation (which should comprise a summary form, 5 page proposal and risk assessment) including downloadable forms. All applications must be submitted through Moodle and must follow the guidance provided.
Deadline for Expedition Grant Applications: 5 pm on Friday 22 February 2013.
Members of short-listed expeditions will be required to attend an interview with the ETC in the spring term.
Past Expedition Reports
A selection of reports from ETC funded expeditions are available here. These provide a flavour of the type of activities for which we will provide funding. |
