Koninkrijk België en het Koninkrijk der Nederlanden stellen
bij dit Verdrag de Nederlandse Taalunie in (hierna te noemen de
Taalunie).

Taalunie heeft tot doel de integratie van Nederland en de Nederlandse
gemeenschap in België op het gebied van de Nederlandse taal
en letteren in de ruimste zin.
2.Tot
dit gebied behoren: de taal en letteren als onderwerp van wetenschap,
de letteren als vorm van kunst, de taal als communicatiemiddel van
de wetenschappen, de taal als medium van de letteren, het onderwijs
van de taal en van de letteren en, meer in het algemeen, de taal
als instrument van maatschappelijk verkeer.
