INSTG049 Publishing Law
This module aims to provide students with a clear understanding of English and international legal principles as they apply to publishing, at a level of detail sufficient to enable them to brief legal professionals effectively and to detect legal problems and issues as they arise in general management.
Topics include: intellectual property; legal deposit; contract law; rights management; the disruptive and continuing impact of the Internet on the legal framework; how to make the best use of legal professionals.
Assessment: Assessment by unseen written examination
Compulsory for: MA in Publishing
Optional for: This module will be available for short course students
Prerequisites: There are no formal prerequisites for this module, although some familiarity with basic legal concepts as they apply to publishing is assumed
