Changing systems, changing roles: expectations and experiences
of staff.

Here are details of the presentations for this re-scheduled fifth
seminar in the series funded by ESRC. Thanks to Stephen Rowland
for the invitation to the Centre for Interdisciplinary Studies
of Higher Education, and to Carol Massey and Jessica Hietasaari-Andersson
for organisational support. The seminar took place in the Garden
Room at UCL.
Please note that the details on this page are
provided for information only, since this event has now taken place.
Programme
Coffee will be available from 10-30; the morning session will
start formally at 11-00. Two plenary presentations will be followed
by separate discussion groups in the morning and afternoon sessions.
The seminar will end by 4-15 at the latest.
Morning presentations will be:
- Ian McNay, University of Greenwich: Role shifts
and re-balancing: blending and boundary-spanning
- Wendy Saunderson, University of Ulster: Lipstick
on the Gorilla: Gender, identity and EO issues in UK higher
education
Lunch will be from 1-00 to 1-45. Afternoon presentations will
be:
- Stephen Court, AUT: The state we’re in: academic
staff in a mass HE system
- Stephen Rowland, University College London: Overcoming
fragmentation in academic life
There is no fee for attendance, but those who register, but do
not arrive, will be charged a fee of £25 – it is a
nuisance value fee. Registration must be made by Monday,
22 December, at the latest. Support is available to cover
attendance costs of a small number of research students. Please
let us know of any who might be invited. They may distribute a
summary of their work during the seminar, and previous student
participants have formed a network to keep in touch.

administration, will be on February 5, 2004. Book the date now.
