Mozhdeh Noorkami obtained her Master of Chemical engineering from University College London in 2010. She has worked on bio-fuel production during her Master’s research project. Her focus was on Biodiesel production from algae. Recently she has started her PhD in design and optimization of fuel cell.

Research project

Title: Optimisation of fuel cell systems and experimental design under uncertainty

Supervisors: Professor Eric Fraga

The aim here is to develop targeted experiment design techniques which will minimise the number of experiments required to maximise the quality of solutions obtained for performance validation, materials screening and computer based design of fuel cells. A multi-objective optimisation framework will be used to identify the trade-offs between the expected performance of generated designs and the impact of uncertainty on the expected performance.

The aim of this part of the project will be to deliver a multi-objective optimisation framework which drives an experimental programme, closing the loop between modelling and experimentation in the most effective manner. The iteration between design and experimentation would help the engineer iterate towards a single (or a small number) design which best accommodates the quality of performance and the expected impact of uncertainty on this performance.
