Rhodri gained a Masters degree in Chemistry from Oxford University where he worked on the electrochemical STM of proteins, with a view to producing single biomolecule conductance switches. After a period working in medical research, he joined the Centre for CO2 technology in 2010 to work on the Flexible Fuel Cell.
Research project
Title: Development of advanced fuel cell technologies
Supervisor: Dr Dan Brett
Fuel cells hold great promise as electrochemical power conversion devices in a huge range of applications. While performance and durability continues to improve and costs fall, there is still great scope for improvements, particularly thorough advanced stack design and novel manufacturing routes. This project will examine new fuel cell designs and concepts, such as the Flexible Fuel Cell concept that employs printed circuit board technology. In addition, advanced manufacturing techniques, the economics of fuel cells and new membrane electrode assembly technologies will be investigated.
