The department is proud to announce that Professor Sorensen, together with three co-editors, has been awarded the prestigious PROSE award 2015 in the Chemistry and Physics category for a series of 3 books on all things related to Distillation. The series was published by Elsevier in July 2014 and is available for purchase via Amazon.

Functional Materials research gets £20 million boost from EPSRC

Ten new research projects that will advance the UK's manufacturing capability, develop new and exciting functional materials, and accelerate the translation of the science of functional materials through to application were announced today by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC). Successful projects include the Advanced Flow Technology for Healthcare Materials Manufacturing grant lead by Professor Asterios Gavriilidis at the UCL Department of Chemical Engineering.

Dr Federico Galvanin wins the 2014 PSE Model-Based Innovation Prize

The 2014 Model-Based Innovation (MBI) Prize was awarded to Dr Federico Galvanin, currently Research Associate at the UCL Department of Chemical Engineering. The prestigious prize is given by Process Systems Enterprise (PSE), providers of the world-leading gPROMS® process modelling platform, for the most innovative use of advanced process modelling techniques in support of published research.

Dr Paul Shearing wins the 2014 Young Chemical Engineer of the Year in Academia

Dr Paul Shearing

The 2014 Young Chemical Engineer of the Year in Academia is Paul Shearing, a Senior Lecturer at University College London, UK. Dr Shearing is a recognised international expert in multi-scale microscopy and researches materials for fuel cells and batteries. He has published more than 50 research papers and collaborates with companies including General Motors, Tata Steel and Praxair. Further details can be found here.

Electrochemical Innovation Lab accepted into the European Graphene Flagship consortium

The Centre for Nature Inspired Engineering Launch and Symposium

On 1st October, Professor Coppens hosted the official Launch of his EPSRC Frontier Engineering Centre at Senate House. The day was a roaring success with nearly one hundred attendees listening to talks from truly distinguished members of the Chemical Engineering community, engaging in a poster presentation and finishing the day with in a fabulous fizz fuelled celebration at the Grant Museum of Zoology.
