What do you study on a master’s degree in Light and Lighting?

This virtual open day will present how the Light and Lighting MSc at the UCL Institute for Environmental Design and Engineering brings together the technical and creative elements of lighting design, including:

  • The evolution of lighting design and innovation over time, giving the historical context for lighting design practice in the present day;
  • How to design a lighting control system that meets people’s health and wellbeing needs in different environments as well as to meet sustainability goals;
  • Essential lighting practice, regulations and standards required for lighting designers;
  • Mathematical models and physical concepts for illumination, applied to the reality of the lit environment; and
  • Computational design tools used in the lighting and architectural industry such as Rhino 3D, Grasshopper, Ladybug/Radiance and DIALux.

In this Zoom webinar, Programme Lead of the Light and Lighting MSc, Dr Jemima Unwin Teji, will present why UCL offers one of the world's most comprehensive master’s degrees in Light and Lighting, through its access to state-of-the-art equipment and facilities and through boosting employability of our students across the lighting industry and built environment.

We will also be joined by current Light and Lighting MSc student Craig Turner who, in our Q&A session, can answer any questions you may have about the student experience, extracurricular activities, and life in London whilst studying.
