Urdu speaking communities in the UK

Urdu is spoken widely in the UK by members of the South Asian community. The majority of Urdu speakers in the UK identify themselves as having Pakistani heritage.

There are many areas in Britain with large numbers of Urdu speakers. These include northern towns such as Manchester, Leeds and Bradford, parts of Scotland and the West Midlands, and various parts of London. A survey conducted in the year 2000 within London schools found that Urdu and its 'sister' language Hindi together came fifth in the top ten most spoken languages in London.

This means that you could find opportunities to use Urdu in the UK quite easily!
