Work with ambitious entrepreneurs in Kenya to grow businesses that change lives.
Want to go to Kenya to join forces with budding entrepreneurs and make a big difference to local communities?
Do you want to work with entrepreneurs in Kenya? Balloon Kenya is a pioneering UCL Advances programme that brings enterprise to Kenya to create jobs, tackle poverty and bring about positive change.
Each summer we invite ten outstanding students to take part. You get a chance to learn about enterprise, work with and help train your Kenyan counterparts to start businesses, and help them pitch for investment.
The six-week project includes a week of intensive entrepreneurship and innovation training, followed by collaborating with Kenyans to start businesses that address issues in their local communities. Finally, work with them to pitch for the investment that will kickstart their businesses.
How to apply
You can find out much more on the Balloon Kenya website. You need to download and fill out the application form and send it to firstname.lastname@example.org along with a short CV (no more than 2 sides of A4).
The application deadline is 5pm 18th April 2014.
If you are applying for a scholarship through UCL Advances, please also use this application form to submit an essay (maximum 400 words) on the subject: ‘Why You Are Deserving.’
There are two cohorts each year. You’ll be asked to indicate your preferred cohort, though we will assume you are able to attend either unless explicitly stated on your application form.
The fee of £1995 (which includes accommodation, meals, insurance, in-country transport and more) will be covered by UCL Advances if your application is successful. The only cost you’ll incur is the return flight to Nairobi (roughly £550 return from London).
Applications are now closed for 2014.
