How do you imagine our lives 40 years from now? What lifestyle would you choose within this ‘Brave New World’? Can we fashion a future urban environment, which enables such lifestyles? And if so, what sustainable legacy would you wish to pass on to future generations living in the global North and South?
The answer is simple. Urban development should encourage an environment where values of both social wellbeing and human advancement are promoted, whilst natural resources and surroundings are retained and respected. When translated into choices, what we decide today holds the power to enrich our lives in the future. The question we now would like to embrace is: what areas can businesses concentrate their investments into to enhance societies’ collective well-being?
Our ‘2050 City' event aims to showcase cutting-edge research at UCL alongside start-up companies and relevant sponsors, with an orientation towards new technologies. We hope this will be an opportunity for like-minded aspirants to engage with local research, panel discussions and an interactive technology fair, and discover the possibilities of collaboration. All departments should share in this unique opportunity to contribute to the vision of where the next forty years will lead us. We invite input from all disciplines, with an emphasis on technology, urban development and enterprise to help us build the foundations for a ‘future-present’.
