Year 3, as in years 1 & 2, is split into three terms:
First Term: September 2008 - December 2008
Second Term: January 2009 - March 2009
Third Term: April 2009 - June 2009
In the first term we study three examinable courses (worth 0.5 course units each): Quantum Mechanics, Electromagnetic Theory, and Physics of the Earth. We also have our laboratory work in which we spend 5 weeks performing a short electronics experiment, and 5 weeks on a longer experiment - similar to the miniprojects at the end of year 2.
In the second term we study another three examinable courses (again, each worth 0.5 course units): Solid State Physics, Nuclear and Particle Physics, and Lasers and Modern Optics.
We also perform a Group Project for the whole of term 2. This involves a group (~8 people) from the physics and theoretical physics degree courses, tackling a real life up-to-date research problem.
Below is a list of the topics that I am studying in year 3 and a brief description of what each topic is about.
PLEASE NOTE: MOST SUBJECTS ARE NOW ACCESSIBLE VIA MOODLE ONLY.
