Every year, UCL runs a number of Residential Summer Schools for Year 12 state school students. The Summer Schools offer a taste of studying a degree programme and of university life.
Residential Summer Schools run from Monday to Friday, with students staying on site in university accommodation.

To apply for our programmes, you must meet certain eligibility criteria. For residential activities, priority is given to students from state schools around the UK, outside London.
If there have not been enough applications for a particular subject, we may re-open applications and will advertise a later application deadline. Applications are not selected on a first-come-first-served basis, so this will not affect any application outcomes.
Part of the application form will require you to enter some information about your parent or guardian. Please make sure they are around when you are completing the form to give you this information.
A teacher will be required to give an academic reference for your application. Please make sure you select a teacher who knows you, and your academic record. You must enter their email address correctly, or they will not be able to complete the reference form. Applications without a teacher reference will not be considered.
Frequently asked questions
Do I have to pay for these summer schools?
No! Our residential and non-residential activities are completely free. This includes your meals and on Residential Summer Schools it also includes your accommodation and evening activities. We also cover the cost of travel to and from our Residential Summer Schools and any travel you might make during the week for any study trips within London.
Do I have to stay overnight at the residential summer school?
Yes. Unless you have extenuating circumstances which prevent you from attending evening events and staying overnight, we expect all participants to stay in the university accommodation for the duration of the summer school. Any extenuating circumstances would need to be submitted to us and agreed in advance of the Residential Summer School dates. If staying over is a problem, you may want to consider one of our non-residential summer schools.
Can my friend/family member take part too?
Only applicants who applied through our system and have been notified that they have a place on the Summer School can attend.
When will I hear if I have a place?
This varies for each subject. If the application deadline gets extended for any reason, we will email existing applicants to let them know the new deadline date. We aim to have students notified of their outcome in early May. We usually shortlist around 7000 applications for our various activities, so it can take some time. Please be patient, and rest assured that you will be notified whatever your outcome. Please do not email to ask about the status of your application, as this significantly slows down the shortlisting process.
My question hasn't been answered here. What do I do?
