  10. Lincoln Green, Kimberly Selvaggi, 2023, oil on paper, 2 x 2 cm

Lincoln green is a medieval colour originating from the dyers of Lincoln, England, who produced the dye by extracting it from woad (isatis tinctoria) to give a strong blue shade and then over-dyeing the blue with yellow weld (reseda luteola) to produce a dark green.Paint sample was made from the dyes extracted from woad and weld grown on the Slade Pigment Farm and turned into pigments via laking, then bound in linseed oil.
