Jung-Ah Lee – BA/BFA

What is death? This is the first question when I make my paintings. For me, death has unlimited possibilities. A person's life is 100 years at the most, but after death, infinity is waiting. Often we describe death as an eternal sleep. And the dreams while sleeping reflect the unconscious. Then, I had a question about the unconscious related to death, so I found Carl Jung's theory is suitable for my thought of death. I referred to Carl Jung's concept of the persona, the ego, and the self in my artworks. It is said that a human's goal in life is for the ego to meet the self. In other words, we grow on our journey to death, and we face the finale by death.
