Project Title

Engineering and Archaeology in Construction and Conservation Projects: Developing Interdisciplinary Techniques and Methodologies

Background & Summary of Project

The PhD research is a systematic study of undisturbed soil core samples from hollow-stem auger boreholes, and the collaborative interdisciplinary testing of the core samples. The research is based on case studies in London and in Norway, and the development of a novel approach to testing cores from an interdisciplinary perspective fulfilling both disciplinary and construction requirements. The aim of the research is to generate an interdisciplinary collaborative work practice between geotechnical engineers and geoarchaeologists to enhance understanding, widen the scope of research and help reduce cost for investigations, as well as safeguard archaeology as a part of construction investigations.
