Therapist researchersKaren Bryan, Professor of Clinical Practice, Speech and Language Therapist
FunderEuropean Institute of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Surrey
Summary

The project will develop and evaluate therapy services for juvenile and young offenders aged 14-21 years. This requires innovative approaches to therapy, and, liaison and joint working with other staff groups in the prisons. Therapy will be provided for young people with a full range of speech, language and communication difficulties. The project will also use standardised assessments to measure speech, language and communication needs across the two populations. The project is a partnership between the University of Surrey, the Prison Service and the local SLT managers. The services are provided at Brinsford Young Offender Institution and Werrington Secure College. The project is funded by the Helen Hamlyn Foundation.
