Description of Project:

We investigated reorganisation in the motor and attentional networkds during performance of manual tasks following disruption of particular brain areas with rTMS. We found that rTMS could induce lasting changes in synaptic activity, measured with Positron Emission Tomography and functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging, in areas remote but functionally connected to the stimulation site. These occured in the absence of any significant changes in behavioural performance and were thought to constitute a compensatory response in order to maintain function.
