Description
Embedding the NumberBeads game in a lesson plan that has to run wholly online. The game is designed to help learners with low numeracy. This version requires students to have access to a laptop or tablet at home, together with internet access, and with parent/carer supervision where possible. They also need the physical materials to be delivered to them.

Notes:
The materials have to be sent to the students' homes before the session. Emailing photos will be a common technique for home learning, so the teacher must check with parents to be sure they know how to do this for all such sessions.

Watch the teacher link to and play the NumberBeads game, to make 5-bead sets out of 1-, 2-, 3-, and 4-bead sets. Now you can follow the guide on your worksheet to play the game yourself and we'll meet again tomorrow.
Notes:
The teacher has an hour to look through all the photos submitted and to put them onto a slide to share on the conferencing app. In case none are submitted, create a few photos to show the differences, include one or two that do not fill the frame.

How did you get on with the game? Lets look at it together and talk about how you made the 5-beads sets. I will ask each of you to tell me a way to make 5 by joining two sets of beads, or by splitting one of the sets. (Repeat this for all the bonds for 5, so that each learner describes at least one of these.) Now tell me what numbers these two sets make (point to pairs that make 5 and that make 4 and 6 as well, showing what happens when you join them each time). Now we'll look at making 6s - how do we do that?
