The UCL Knowledge Lab is part of the UCL Institute of Education at University College London (UCL).
The Learning Designer was developed by a team led by Professor Diana Laurillard at the UCL Knowledge Lab.
UCL, a company incorporated by Royal Charter (number RC 000631), is the entity that determines how and why your personal data is processed. This means that UCL is the 'controller' of your personal data for the purposes of data protection law.
Personal data, or personal information, means any information about an individual from which that person can be identified. It does not include data where the identity has been removed (anonymous data).
We collect, use, and store your personal data in the following ways:
When your designs are stored on the server, the design files themselves do not contain any personal data other than unsolicited data the user may choose to provide inside the design, i.e. data we have not asked for, and could not use.

Anonymised data may also be used in published reports or journals and at conferences.
The Learning Designer website also manages the ownership of the designs you create.
When you create a design, the design is stored on our servers and can be accessed using an unlisted URL that contains a unique 64 characters code. It can be viewed by you when you are logged in (via "My Designs" in the "Personal space" section of the Browser screen) and any individuals you have shared the unique URL with.
If you choose to share your design with the Learning Designer community (comprised of all registered users) by placing it in the "Public" section of your "Personal space", the community will be able to find and view your public designs via the "Directory of designs" on the Browser screen. You always retain ownership of shared designs, but they are shared under the Creative Commons 4.0 (BY) license.
Your personal data will be collected and processed only by our staff and UCL (Access to your personal information is limited to staff who have a legitimate need to see it for the purpose of carrying out their job at UCL.).
Data Protection Legislation requires that we meet certain conditions before we are allowed to use your data in the manner described in this notice, including having a "lawful basis" for the processing. The basis for processing will be as follows:
We do not transfer your personal data outside the European Economic Area (EEA).
We have put in place appropriate security measures to prevent your personal data from being accidentally lost, used or accessed in an unauthorised way, altered or disclosed. We have established procedures to deal with any suspected personal data breach and will notify you and any applicable regulator of a breach where we are legally required to do so.
We will only retain your personal data for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes we collected it for, including for the purposes of satisfying any legal, accounting, or reporting requirements. We will keep your personal data according to the Records Retention Schedule.
