Claimant or beneficiary

Biography

Apparently resident slave-owner of Berbice. Given as Gerhard or Gerrit Pieter van Holst, he had been co-owner of the L'Enterprise (formerly Graubunderland) estate, which he had jointly purchased in 1822, but from which he sold the enslaved people in 1831. In the 1830s he was awarded compensation for two smaller claims, for seven and one enslaved person.

  1. An online sourced family tree gives Gerhard Pieter van Holst, son of Gerhard Pieter van Holst and Theodora Bertrana nee Betmer born 18/03/1785 in Amsterdam.

  2. Will of Gerrit Pieter van Holst of Berbice British Guiana proved 14/08/1839. In the will he left 1/4 of his estate to two women, presumably his married daughters, Jacoba Maria Mulder widow and Anna Wilhelmina Hager, and the remainder between four males identified as his children.
