Biography

Monumental inscription in Kingston Cathedral: HERE LYETH THE BODY OF MRS ELIZABETH FREEMAN WHO DYED JULY 2d 1728 AGED 50 YEARS ALSO ANN GOAD, HER NIECE, OBIIT 11 SEP 1731, AGED 31 YEARS. LIKEWISE, YE BODY OF CAPTAIN GAYWOOD GOADE, HER NEPHEW OBIIT 1st SEPTR. 1758, AGED 45 YRS.

Elizabeth Freeman of St Thomas-in-the-East, widow. Estate probated in Jamaica in 1728. Slave-ownership at probate: 120 of whom 64 were listed as male and 56 as female. 41 were listed as boys, girls or children. Total value of estate at probate: £7262.91 Jamaican currency of which £3081 currency was the value of enslaved people. Estate valuation included £241 currency cash, £4247.81 currency debts and £43.5 currency plate.
