Biography

The will of John Lowry of St. Catherine, Printer was proved in Jamaica 14/09/1775. To Lydia Long, a "free negro woman", he bequeathed all his furniture, three enslaved people and a house in St Catherine plus £10 per year for seven years. He bequeathed to Lydia's daughter Mary Lowry, a "free mulatto", a £150 Jamaican currency bond, a £200 bond and a further £150 bond. He appointed several people, including Lydia, to be Mary's guardians and requested she be brought up a Christian.
