Biography

The will of Richard Capleton of St. Mary, was proved in Jamaica 1/06/1775. In it, he manumitted a "negro" woman named Elizabeth Daphney for her good and faithful service, and gave her an annuity of £10 Jamaican currency per year. "I give devise and bequeath unto my mulatto daughter Mary Capelton all my wearing Apparel Household Furniture Horses and small Stock." Mary was also to receive part of the profits from his estate and 3 enslaved people.
