Biography

The will of William Thomson of St. Thomas in the East, planter was proved in Jamaica 10/11/1774: "I give and Bequeath Unto Mary Williamson Elizabeth Williamson two Mulatto Girls the reputed Daughters of a free negroe woman named Rose at present living in the parish of Saint Thomas in the East . . . Twenty Pounds Sterling Each to be paid them and Each of them by my Executors yearly." He also gave to Matthew Williamson, carpenter in London, and John Williamson, wheelwright in Britain (brothers, and each formerly of Jamaica), £50 sterling.

Slave-ownership at probate: 83 of whom 43 were listed as male and 40 as female. 0 were listed as boys, girls or children. Total value of estate at probate: £15451.77 Jamaican currency of which £5088 currency was the value of enslaved people. Estate valuation included £202.25 currency cash, £9006.59 currency debts and £0 currency plate.
