Biography

Robert Gardner of Trelawny, planter. Estate probated in Jamaica in 1773. Slave-ownership at probate: 16 of whom 8 were listed as male and 8 as female. 0 were listed as boys, girls or children. Total value of estate at probate: £1033.26 Jamaican currency of which £860 currency was the value of enslaved people. Estate valuation included £1.17 currency cash, £81.94 currency debts and £9 currency plate.

The will of Robert Gardner was proved in Jamaica, 01/02/1773. He manumitted an enslaved woman, Grace, and left three enslaved people each to her "mulatto" children Mary, Samuel, John and Elizabeth Gardner. He also bequeathed on enslaved person to a "mulatto" boy Robert Gardner Thornton, son of a "mulatto" woman named Mary Thornton. The rest was passed to his white relatives.
