John Minot

John Minot contributed £11 17s 6d to the University of Pennsylvania following Dr John Morgan's fundraising tour of the West Indies in 1772-1773.

Possibly the same man as John Minot of Portland, Esquire. Estate probated in Jamaica in 1779. Slave-ownership at probate: 12 of whom 7 were listed as male and 5 as female. 0 were listed as boys, girls or children. Total value of estate at probate: £657.13 Jamaican currency of which £630 currency was the value of enslaved people. Estate valuation included £0 currency cash, £0 currency debts and £5 currency plate.

Possibly also the John Minot of Kingston, merchant, who married Ann Marston in Kingston 11/09/1743; this would make him the father of John Marston Minot (q.v.) and brother-in-law of George Richards of Kingston (q.v.).

Possible identification from a memorial inscription in Kingston Cathedral Church: MARGARET, WIFE OF DANIEL MCQUEEN OF KINGSTON, MERCHT., OB. DEC. 1 1757 AET 29, ALSO THE BODY OF HER SISTER, THE WIFE OF GEORGE RICHARDS EQR. MERCHT. OB: 1 JULY, 1755, AET. 30. LIKEWISE THE BODY OF THEIR SISTER ANN, WIFE OF JOHN MINOT, OB. 17 JANY. 1758 AET. 30, ALSO MARY M .......... 10 SEP. 1764.
