Davies emerged as one of the major landowners on Dominica after Emancipation, owning the Canefield, Bath and Emsall and Wallhouse estates at the time of his death in 1857. Canefield was auctioned by the Commissioners for the Sale of Encumbered Estates in 1869 'in the matter of the estate of William Davies deceased.' He was conceivably the same man as the awardee of the compensation for two enslaved people under Dominica no. 580.

Enslaved man brought to England as a domestic servant; his former owner was indicted for the mistreatment of Thompson in 1824.

A cover note outlining the contents of the document.
