Biography

Slave-owner in Trinidad, apparently resident. Nothing further has been traced of him to date by LBS, but normally reliable genealogical material online shows him as born St Cuthbert's Edinburgh 1771, the son of Andrew Gairdner; marrying in South Carolina in 1795; and dying in Trinidad in 1812, with children born in South Carolina and Clifton, Bristol. His wife shown in this family tree was Jane Drummond nee Gordon, who was buried of 40 Hamilton Terrace at All Souls Kensal Green 03/10/1854 aged 82. A legal case in the US Supreme Court in 1812 concerning Edwin Gairdner of Charleston, who was bankrupt c.1803, was probably this man.
