Biography

Briefly owner of Belle Plaine, El Socorro and the Retrench (formerly Montapage) estates on Trinidad, all of which he purchased after 1819, dying before the 1822 registration, when his executor Andrew Johnston registered the enslaved people for the succession of John Blackwood deceased. To date no will nor death record has been traced for him, nor has the likely connection to the family of Sir James Stevenson Blackwood the 2nd Baron Dufferin (q.v.) been confirmed.

  1. His death date was given as 1824 [presumably erroneously] in a hearing in 1828 on the re-registration of three enslaved people on Belle Plaine, whom Andrew Johnston had registered as deceased in 1825.
