Sir William Leybourne Leybourne

???? - 1775

Biography

Governor of the Windwards.

  1. Will of William Leyborne Leyborne [sic] now of Westwell Oxfordshire, Captain General and Governor in Chief of His Majesty's Islands of Grenada, the Grenadines, St Vincent and Tobago in America, was proved 19/10/1775. He left only £100 each to his 'dearly beloved' wife Anne (who also received his household effects) and his 'dearly beloved' son Edward William Leybourne, from the consideration that his wife would be entitled to a certain part of her marriage portion for her sole and separate use under their marriage settlement, and that Edward William Leybourne would be entitled to receive certain estates under the will of William Leybourne Leybourne's late uncle Edward Leybourne. He left Westwell ('lately purchased of the executors of Edw. Coppin Esq.') in trust for Edward William Leybourne subject to raising £1000 for his general debts from it; the residuary heirs were his younger children Shippen [sic], Marianne and William. The will made no mention of property in the Caribbean.
