Biography

Slave-owner in Jamaica, resident, for whom no death-date or will has been traced to date. He was Muster Master-General in the Jamaica militia c. 1799 and Magistrate in St Catherine's c. 1824. He was presumably related to Dr Adam Sibbit, the Rector of Clarendon and author in 1800 of A Dissertation, Moral and Political, on the Influence of Luxury on Nations. The family name occurs in British records in Ancroft, Co. Durham, but the connection has not yet been established with confidence.
