- Will of William Brown planter of Grenada [made in 1777] proved 11/10/1779. He left an annuity to a 'mulatto girl' Charlotte 'now residing in the town of St George', and 'as a mark of my regard and esteem for him for the true and uninterrupted friendship he has ever expressed for me over a very long acquaintance', he left to John Porteus of St George a 'negro man' called Stephen now in his service. The will makes elaborate provision for the purchase and manumission of a 'mulatto boy' called 'William Brown or Brown', then on Montserrat and the property of Mrs Margaret Righton [sp?] .
