Notes

Located on the northeastern part of the parish of St. Thomas in the Vale, 500 feet above sea level. The works, great house and village were a compact formation at Williamsfield. Hakewill noted that the soil was poor and required the extensive use of manure. The provision grounds of the enslaved workers were noted as extensive.

There are two plans of Williamsfield in the National Library of Jamaica. The first by William Smellie and George Innes puts the estate in St. Thomas in the Vale (1784) and the other by William Frazer and Alexander Rainey places the estate in St. Catherine (1790). The estate is described at length by James Hakewill in his Picturesque Tour of Jamaica published in 1825. By 1790 the estate covered 2,426 acres. In 1815 the small estate of Sandy Gut was added bring the number of acres to 2998 acres. By the early 1820s the estates had over 300 acres in cane.
